NASA Plans to Use 3D Google Smartphones as Brains and Eyes of Robots on Space Station

(Web design in Cambodia Digital Marketing Agency, restartbox.com)- NASA is reportedly planning to use Google next-generation 3D sensing innovation, namely Google smartphones to improve its Synchronized Position Hold, Engage, Reorient, Experimental Satellites, or SPHERES on the space station.

Tellingly, the 3D smartphones are equipped with a motion-tracking camera and an infrared depth sensor which detects sharp angles inside the space station and create a 3D map that lets the SPHERES navigate from one module to another.

Smart SPHERES project manager Chris Provencher said: “This type of capability is exactly what we need for a robot that’s going to do tasks anywhere inside the space station. It has to have a very robust navigation system.”
